Smoki Haulers Trail Status

Construction of the wind turbine project by First Wind has commenced in Oakfield and the club has made a decision to close a section of ITS-83
temporarily from our Linneus connector (south of the South Oakfield Rd in T4- R3) all the way to the Thompson Settlement Road crossing in Oakfield.

Heavy construction with blasting and logging activity are well underway and can be expected to increase further on the Sam Drew mountain area.

From the north, connectivity of ITS-83 through Oakfield and on to Island Falls will be maintained by using Trail 64 west off the ITS-83 intersection in New Limerick, following Trail 64 west to Trail 61 south, and then the Oakfield Town Trail to connect again to ITS-83 south near the East Branch bridge in Oakfield.

The remaining portion of ITS 83 in Oakfield and all other trails have been groomed and are in very good condition.
There are some water holes that may open up further with the warmer weather and caution is the watch word.
Additionally, there is a logging operation on ITS -83 north, about a mile from the Smoki Hauler club house.
ITS -83A and all of Connector Trail 114 to ITS- 85 north of  Patten were freshly groomed on Thursday, 30 Jan 2014.
